Missouri Expungement Tools

The Missouri Expungement Tools include solutions for better data presentation, a DIY tool for individuals seeking expungement of "simple" cases, and a one-stop solution for attorneys to streamline expungement cases. These tools, now housed under the CLEI, are the product of a larger effort by the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law’s Clear My Record project. The project results from several years of hard work led by faculty, students, tech enthusiasts, and volunteer attorneys, all committed to making legal services fair and accessible. The Center for Law, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation will lead the next phase of this project to make these tools available to a broader audience.

Additional details:

The Missouri Expungement Tools include the following solutions:

Better Presentation of Data: The team crafted a set of solutions to access and interpret public criminal data in Missouri efficiently. These solutions comprise a statutes' eligibility database that swiftly and accurately identifies statute eligibility, an automatically generated list of agencies based on location and statutes, and an advanced search engine for offenders under the supervision of the Missouri Department of Corrections, leveraging openly accessible data.

A Tool to Help the Public: This self-help tool was created to aid individuals pursuing expungement for "simple" cases. It enables Missourians seeking expungement to utilize a plain language-guided interview for accurate eligibility checks and automatically generate an expungement petition, empowering them to file with the court independently.

A Tool to Help Attorneys: This comprehensive tool serves as a one-stop solution for attorneys aiming to streamline expungement cases. It enables attorneys to generate a unified view of an individual's criminal history from various sources, swiftly assess eligibility or identify the need for additional searches, and ultimately produce a court-ready petition in Word format. Moreover, this tool is designed for multiple organizations, providing each organization with a secure environment to work on cases. All organizations have the opportunity to participate in enhancing eligibility and service data. This tool is currently being designed and implemented.
