In the 2023 Fall semester an interdisciplinary group of MBA and JD students devised a regional fund-of-fund structure that would take advantage of recent regulatory changes in the Small Business Administration’s Small Business Investment Company program. The new rules were introduced to increase access to capital for entrepreneurs that are underserved by more traditional forms of small business investments. The students developed an investment strategy to focus on retail and hospitality businesses and convert those to employee-owned as mechanism for both increasing investment and closing the wealth gap among the employees in target companies.
